Gold, Silver and Bronze medals don't often correspond to 1st, 2nd and 3rd place, as most competitions issue more than one of each type of medal in a year.
Here is a brief explanation of each competition:
- Math Kangaroo: National Mathematics competition directed at youger students. All students in Portugal do a single multiple-choice test with 15-30 questions.
- OPM - Portuguese Mathematics Olympiad: Main national Mathematics competition. Consists of three stages (school, regional and national), each stage having an exam with ~4 problems.
- OMaio - Olimpiada de Mayo: Mathematics competition for students of Portugal, Spain and South America.
- OPaulista - Paulistan Mathematics Olympiad: Mathematics competition for students of the Brazilian state of São Paulo, and for Portugal
- Equamat/Mat12: Mathematics competitions that are part of the multi-disciplinary CNC (National Science Competitions) organized by University of Aveiro
- OChemistry: National Chemistry competition with theoretical and practical components. Consists of two stages (regional and national).
- OdF - Physics Olympiad: National Physics competition with theoretical and practical components. Consists of two stages (regional and national).
- EUSO - European Union Science Olympiad: European Science competition with theoretical and practical components, covering topics on Physics, Chemistry and Biology.
- IPhO - International Physics Olympiad: The most important Physics competition in the world.
- ONI - National Informatics Olympiad: National Programming competition. Consists of two stages (national qualifiers and national final), each stage having an exam with ~4 programming challenges scored using public and hidden test cases.
- CIIC - Ibero-american Competition of Informatics and Computation: Programming competition for students of Portugal, Spain and South America.
- IOI - International Olympiad in Informatics: The most important Programming competition in the world for pre-university students.
- SInf - Week of Informatics: Informatics competition held by the Informatics Nucleus of FEUP during the yearly event Week of Informatics.
- MIUP - Inter-University Programming Marathon: National Programming competition for university students. National stage of ICPC - International Collegiate Programming Competition.
- SWERC - South-Western Europe Regional Contest: Regional Programming competition for university students from Portugal, Spain, France, Italy, Switzerland and Israel. Regional stage of ICPC - International Collegiate Programming Competition.
